Your tour commences in Beijing, a city in Northern China. Beijing, an ancient capital and a bustling modern metropolis is a city of amazing contrasts. In Beijing some incredible historical sites awaits you. On a guided tour, you explore the Forbidden City, the Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall of China and the Temple of Heaven.
Leaving Beijing you embark on a train journey to Lhasa, the “Train route to Lhasa”, opened in July 2006, runs on the highest rail line in the world, the line runs above 13000 feet above sea level for more than 80 percent of the route and tops at a height of 16,640 feet. The magical ride in this starts from Beijing and ends in the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa. The trip takes around 48 hrs and covers a distance of around 4065 km. The power for the train is provided by three 3,800 horse power diesel locomotive. Amazingly it climbs from Golmund City at 9000 feet to Tanggula pass at 16,640 feet covered in mere six and a half hour. The “Sky Train” passes through the biggest Qinghai Lake, The Bird Island, Chaerhan Salt Lake, Kunlun Mountains Pass, Tuotuo River, Changtang Grassland, Eight-Pagodas in North Tibet Pasture, Namtso (Lake Namco), Yambajan Hot Springs, an incredible journey through the picturesque locations, the vista of spectacular mountainous landscapes, the stunning snow-clad mountains, breathtaking deep valleys, delightful hill tops, exotic vast deserts or frozen lands and the exciting and unforgettable sight of the Tibetan folklore all definitely be a magical moments.
The train has been equipped with oxygen-supplying equipments. Oxygen masks are available for those who are prone to altitude sickness.
In the old city of Lhasa, you will be taken on a guided tour to all the city's major attractions: Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, Norbulingka etc. Excursions to important Tibetan cities of Shigatse, Gyantse and Shegar are also included in your itinerary. On reaching Rongbuk, you get to view the world's highest mountain Mount Everest. In Nepal you will get to explore the three medieval cities: Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur.
